I just drove a Maserati and a Porsche 911 Turbo S. What a headrush.

A few days ago I have bought a 4-lap driving package from this oasis of mighty fine deals known as Groupon for an autocross event at the Nassau Colliseum. It’s hosted by Velocity Driving LLC and they have a fleet of 5 supercars. A Lamborghini Gallardo, Ferrari F430 Spider, Nissan GT-R and the two cars I drove, a Maserati Granturismo and a Porsche 911 Turbo S (holy mother... more on that in just a bit). The course is a simple track with a few tight turns and one long straightaway so you don’t need to learn it. All in all I spent $200 on this and I don’t regret one bit. I will say one thing, unless you are really really scared of crashing (which you won’t) don’t pay the $40 for their “insurance.” My dumb Pilot is happy I’ll be able to fill up her massive tank yet again.

After waiting maybe 15 minutes after arriving, I get called up and I decided to give the Maserati a go. It was the easiest to drive, sounds pretty good and looks the best. I would happily take one to the Hamptons. Afterwards I paid an extra $100 for five laps (because why not) and I chose the Porsche 911. I knew it was a Turbo model but as soon as I stepped in I found out it was the Turbo S model, oh shit I realized, I know it’ll be real fucking fast. As soon as I stepped on the throttle, it took off like a rocket, and it was a handful to drive, I felt it twitching and the traction control was working overtime to make sure I don’t hit a light post or spin out. Nonetheless I didn’t think of crashing and I decided to go balls out on this car and it was worth it. I swear I’ve never driven a car this fast or with such heavy steering. I literally didn’t realize how light the Pilot’s steering was so it was a bit of an adjustment when I left.

In all, it was totally worth it. The staff was nice and didn’t bullshit you into anything. If you can, I’d highly recommend attending one of their events. So worth it. And depending on what car I get after graduation (hopefully) I’ll go to more autocross events.
